Chaos Drives were collected from G.U.N. Robots. Animals were collected from Badniks.
Also, there was a (very lacking and boring) Chao Garden in Sega Superstars.

Honestly, the Chao Gardens in the Sonic Adventure series were not the greatest, you were required to grind rings (and the maximum you could hold was 999 rings until you completed a stage) in the main game to buy anything. And once you buy them, it's back to grinding for 4,000 rings again. It was also required for 100% completion, which meant pretty much spending more hours in the Chao Garden than playing the actual story mode itself.

Knock yourself out, I don't think Chao World is gonna be great unless they have something to make it different from the Sonic Adventure Chao Gardens.

@hitkid96fan: Sorry, I made that mistake. Also, it's probably in Sonic World because the Chao Garden was mostly recieved positively.

@gsman243: Yes, I was just speaking my opinion about it to answer one of your questions. I should also mention there was a Tiny Chao Garden in Sonic Advance 1-2 and Pinball Party. It's Chao Garden but of course, tiny. There were some mini-games here and there but that's it, it's even more lacking than Sonic Adventure's Chao Garden.

If you have questions about the Chao Garden, look at this FAQ:

And if you want to try SADX and SA2B's Chao Gardens easily (and of course the power of modding PC versions), just sign up for Steam and buy them digitally there.
It is $20.97 for both games and the SA2 Battle DLC.
